Three years ago, I cried my eyes out by the end of Godzilla Minus One. This time, I cried during three separate occasions in this movie alone. Takashi Yamazaki delivers a perfect sequel with Godzilla Minus Zero. From minute one, I knew we were in for something truly special. From the insane sound design, beautiful vfx, and strong performances from the cast, Godzilla Minus Zero was an absolute masterpiece. After seeing these same monsters across different iterations throughout the years, you would think you'd seen it all. But Yamazaki brings a familiar yet heightened sense of danger to Godzilla and Ghidorah that I don't think will be matched for a very long time. This movie is LOUD. There were multiple times during the movie where my seat was literally shaking. Seeing this in IMAX is a must. I also loved the continued allegory for war these movies are. What are the after effects of war? And what could it do to a person going forward? Those two questions were answered expertly and I loved every second. Topped off with a banging film score that I'm sure will get nominated for plenty of awards, Godzilla Minus Zero is a film you have to see in theaters.
