Holy shit what a film. This was everything I dreamed of and so much more. Fede Alvarez brings his amazing sensibilities to this franchise and Alien Romulus is without a doubt the best in the series sans the first two films. Cailee Spaeny gave a knockout performance and continues to shine. From Priscilla to Civil War, and now Alien, Cailee continues to deliver incredible performances. The MVP of Romulus was most definitely David Jonsson who plays Andy. His transformative performance along with the emotional dynamic between he and Cailee's character Rain, really drove home the family aspects of Romulus. It goes without saying, this was one of the most beautiful movies I've seen all year. Watching it in IMAX is a requirement to truly get the immersion that Fede conveyed with the camera. Every shot was filled with so much texture and it was breathtaking to see in that wide open aspect ratio. This film was claustrophobic, deeply intense and has a piss your pants 3rd act that is unforgettable. Also, shout out to the rest of the cast who all had amazing performances. Isabela Merced in particular, has a scene that instantly put her into scream queen contention and was one of my favorite scenes in the entire film. Although Romulus falls into a bit of a nostalgia fest and has a particular CGI character that I just can't morally agree with, this film overall delivered, and I had a great time in the theater.
