Holy hell, The Furious was absolutely incredible. Kenji Tanigaki directs what I belive to be the peak of this genre, with odes to the amazing Hong Kong and Indonesian action films of the past. Before I get to the action, the story itself was an endearing tale about two men doing whatever it takes to get back the people they love most. The Furious brilliantly blends multiple fighting styles in the movie. And it results in some of the most beautifully brutal fight choreography I have ever seen. I loved how each of characters had unique fighting styles that you could clearly distinguish. Whether it's the classic, Kung Fu fighting style, judo, Silat, or the gorilla style fighting that one character in particular was doing, each fighting style felt uniquely fresh, and blended together perfectly. I also really loved the dance-like movements during the group fights. How the cameras moves around during these scenes was spectacular, and it felt even better watching it in a theater full of people going crazy with appreciation for what we were witnessing. The Furious is a generational fight film and will be studied for years to come. I can't wait to watch it a million more times.
