The Philippou brothers have done it again. Bring Her Back is a deeply disturbing look at grief, loss, and how one contends with it. Danny and Michael once again bring their horror flair to the big screen in what is easily the scariest film of the year. I knew going in to expect some crazy sequences in the movie, but even I was shocked at just how disturbingly gruesome a lot of the scenes were. There's a particular scene in the third act that will stick with you long after you leave and is genuinely stomach turning. The directors do a great job using the horror genre to go deep into these emotional themes in a very effective way. The cast expertly carry the writing and direction in what felt like a symbiotic relationship between everyone working on the film. Seeing how far the Philippou brothers have come has been amazing to see. As a fan of theirs since the Rackaracka days, watching their continued ascent in Hollywood has been really cool.
