Wicked was amazing. Outside of a good chunk of the first half being horribly lit, that was a great time. Ariana Grande did an incredible job, but it was Cynthia Erivo's transcendent performance that brings this film to new heights. Every musical number was powerful and carried a weight that enhanced every scene. I also really appreciated the practicality in Wicked. A lot of the sets and scenery were built for real, and that gave a level of texture that I don't think would have worked had it been fully cgi. This was also really funny. Ariana Grande is comedically sharp and was a big reason why a lot of the comedy works in the film. I'm not the biggest musical guy but I'm actually glad I went and saw this in a theater. I'm ready for part 2.
