Ryan Coogler does it again. Sinners is everything hyped up to be and so much more. It was gorgeously shot, composed, written and directed, with an incredible double performance from Michael B. Jordan. Sinners tells a carefully and beautifully crafted story weaved around the vampire genre in what is easily Coogler's magnum opus. The infusion of music as a storytelling element was expertly done and was a joy to experience. Ludwig Göransson does an amazing job making what we hear on screen just as important as what we saw. The cinematography in this film was also the best I've seen all year. Do yourself a favor and see this on the biggest IMAX screen in your area. Every shot had a purpose, and you could feel the work that went into each shot. When the film's aspect ratio fully opens up, you are immediately enraptured by every frame. The supporting cast was amazing as well. Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, and all of the supporting cast all had pivotal roles, and they killed it. Miles Caton, who played Sammy, knocked it out of the park in what was his feature film debut. Ultimately, Sinners gives me hope for more original storytelling and should be a wakeup call for studios to have trust in our filmmakers. There's a certain scene in this film that assured me and everyone in my packed theater that we were watching something truly special. Sinners is a must watch.
